Many home owners believe that if they haven’t had any problems with their septic system they don’t need to pump out their tank. Unfortunately this is a serious and sometimes costly misconception. Routine pumping is part of the maintenance your septic system was designed to receive and will help prevent system failure and increase the longevity of your system.
Pumping your septic tank every 2 to 3 years helps maintain the integrity of your system if you are diligent on what does and does NOT go into your tank. If your tank sits for long periods of time, like for vacation homes, or if you are having a large gathering, your system may need to be checked and/or have some adjustments made to keep it in operating condition.
Be aware of signs that your tank may be ready for pumping. Inside pay attention to slowing drains and odors. Outside look out for pooling water or an “overly healthy lawn”. These are all signs that your tank and system is in need of maintenance regardless of when it was last pumped. If you see these signs call AAA Septic and Drain right away to avoid the most obvious sign of a problem tank: a sewage backup.
